Genesis 30-36

1. What obstacles do God's purposes face from within Abraham/Isaac/Jacob's family?

2. What obstacles do God's purposes face from outside Abraham/Isaac/Jacob's family?

3. What characteristics and movements of Abraham/Isaac/Jacob's family seem particularly important for God's plan to be accomplished?

  1. The jealousy and fertility issues in Jacob's family seem enough to rip it apart, yet God uses it to create 12 sons.
Laban's deception and manipulation of Jacob seem likely to keep Jacob away from Canaan forever, yet God blesses him and helps him escape a wealthy man with a big family, even with Laban's blessing.
The bitterness between Esau & Jacob could have been explosive, but whether it was Jacob's gifts or the healing of time, all was peaceful.
The Dinah/Shechem situation had potential to explode into war (or intermarriage), but God moved them on from there despite a lot of trouble.
God continues to provide, expanding the family and getting them back to Canaan to continue his plan.
