Genesis 24-29

1. As Abraham's family continues from one generation to the next, does the "destination" or overall purpose change?

2. How do personality differences figure into the mix?

3. Does God's overall purpose change?

4. How do you see God's purposes working out in the details of people's stories?

  1. Now that I've given a week's worth of comments showing specific verse connections, I've given a template of the sorts of things to look for. I will restrict my comments now to more general observations.

I find it striking how many similarities there are from one generation to the next--it appears intentional by the author. It is also noteworthy how much the parents' beliefs and actions influence the children's beliefs and actions. Still true today! God's purposes remain the same. He makes a personal appearance to each new generation to continue his relationship and blessing with Abraham's family, while other tribes continue in hostility toward one another.
