Deuteronomy 31-34

1. What do you make of the juxtaposition of God's promise, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you" (Deut. 31:6, 8) with his prediction and Moses' song in Deut. 31-32?

2. What evidence do you see for consequences of bad choices even amongst those who are blessed and favored?

  1. It seems pretty incredible that God, knowing the people he chose will be disobedient, unfaithful, foolish (among other things)carries through with his plan to establish them in a special place, with a special relationship with him, with the promise to never leave them or forsake them. He goes into the situation knowing what it will cost him but does it anyway--for love. If only we were as faithful. Nevertheless, he remains just and there is a cost to disobedience as evidenced by Moses' end.
