1. Technically, it shouldn't take the Israelites 40 years to travel from Egypt to Canaan. What plans does God have for his people in the meantime?
2. What different means does God use to teach his people?
3. What can God's interaction with his people during this time teach us about day to day living on our journey?

At this stage of the game, it seems like the journey is more important than the destination. The destination is always in their minds, but the day to day lessons of depending on God are paramount. God leads them each step of the way, teaches them to depend on him for their daily needs, sets up guidelines of right & wrong, teaches them through Jethro how to resolve disputes & rely on community. By analogy, if the Promised Land for us is heaven, we need to depend on God now each step of the way for guidance, provision, and learning to live in community.
