1. What evidence do you see that the Philippians heard some of the same teaching as the Galatians?
2. How does Paul's experience in Philippi (Acts 16) give weight to what he tells the Philippians?
3. What is Paul's overarching attitude in this letter?
4. How does that help him to encourage the Philippians?

Because of Paul's prison experience in Philippi, his testimony from prison where he's writing from has a lot of validity to it. But in the midst of whatever he suffers for the gospel, there is a resounding note of joy at what God is doing, both in his life and the life of others. He sees God's hand in everything--from the faith of the Philippians to the troubles in the lives of him and his fellow helpers. Because of all this, he is able to encourage the Philippians to keep going and live with an attitude of joy.
