John 1-6

1. Why did Jesus make the world his destination for a time?

2. What means did Jesus use to prove he was not of this world?

3. What did Jesus want people to understand about the world we live in?

  1. It's a challenge to read so much of the gospel of John at once, but it points to bigger themes that are repeated in the book (and invites further study!). Jesus came so that people could find true life in him, not in the things of this world, things like food, water, laws, power structures, etc. He uses miracles to prove himself, and catch their attention, but only as a means to draw people to him, not to the miracles themselves, or their effects. He continually points to belief in himself as the source of life and fulfillment.
