Paul's affection for the Thessalonians comes out quite clearly, even though his time with them wasn't very long. They seem to have had a very sincere conversion experience through their interaction while Paul was with them. Now they struggle with questions of sexual immorality and the what will happen to those who have died. Paul addresses them very clearly, with practical and encouraging advice for dealing with day to day issues.
