Paul has never met the Colossians, only learned of them from Epaphras, but he prays for them and encourages them just as fervently. The mystery of God, Christ himself, is mentioned a number of times. Who would have imagined that God would come in the flesh to reconcile himself with people? But all that was written in the past, that pointed to that all along, is finally made clear through the death and resurrection of Christ. It is a very Christ-centered book. Because of all Christ has done, in the lives of both Jews and Gentiles, the Colossians, and all of us, should live with our hearts set on things above, not mired down in rules and regulations, but living to an even higher standard.
