2 Peter 1-3

1. What does Peter seem to be motivated by in writing this letter?

2. What does he encourage his readers to do in response (3:1)?

3. What is Peter's understanding of the time we've been before the creation of a new heaven and a new earth?

4. How should we use the time we've been given?

  1. Peter seems to be writing because of false teachers who are leading people astray from the gospel. He urges people to wholesome thinking--considering carefully what the prophets have said from long ago, pointing ahead to Jesus' teaching. False teaching leads to fulfillment of sinful desires, appealing in the short run, but leading to judgment. Peter emphasizes God's patience as we wait until that judgment time, but the definite consequences God will carry out on those who are not faithful to him.
