Amos 6-9

1. How does the careful historical documentation of 1-2 Kings set the stage for Amos and God's promised exile?

2. Where do you see grace evident in the message of Amos?

3. Is God's sovereign knowledge of the good, the bad, and the ugly, good news or bad news?

4. In what ways does our own nation's ways resemble those of Israel?

  1. As I think about the news, it's alarming to consider the disparity in wealth in our country and many of the current political issues which reflect our views on wealth. Who has it? Who's responsible to share it? Are we taking care of the poor? Are we even listening to God? It's clear from the last chapter of Amos that there's no escape from God's knowledge of who we are. We should take heed and fall in line with him. Even our best efforts will fail, though, and we better be relying on the grace given to us through Jesus if we are to have any future of life with God.
