God predicted that the people's desire for a king like other nations would backfire. It certainly seems to have done so. They don't seem any different from the sinful nations around them, and they need a prophet to point it out to them--they can't even see how bad they are. Yet there is a faithful remnant, like the faithful prophets Obadiah hid away in a cave.
